Staff Engineer (multiple positions)

Description

Provide civil engineering services utilizing topographic aerial (LiDAR) survey data to produce PLS-CADD transmission line models. Also responsible for analyzing and reporting on minimum conductor-to-ground clearance and possible impairments caused by trees or high brush.

Minimum Requirements

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• A working knowledge of general surveying principles and geometry are desired. Must possess the ability to master multiple computer software programs, work independently, and organize and prioritize assignments. Must also be skilled in written and oral communication, in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, and working as a team member.
• A demonstrated expertise in the use of technical applications/software/tools (i.e., MS Word, Excel, PLS CADD, PLS POLE, SAPS, MicroStation, TerraScan, Auto CADD, Sag 10 and Caisson programs).
• A comfortable working knowledge of PLS CADD would be a plus.  
• Advanced computer skills such as programming or ability to use higher level design and/or data analysis programs.  
• Knowledge of the NESC, NEC, and other related regulations a plus. 
• Must have experience dealing with multiple projects and priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To provide civil engineering services utilizing topographic aerial (LiDAR) survey data to produce PLS-CADD transmission line models. Analyze transmission lines for minimum conductor-to-ground clearance and possible impairments caused by trees or high brush. Report results of vegetation analysis using ArcGIS. The successful applicant will also check, manage and maintain LiDAR data.

The incumbent is responsible for the following:

• Analyzing topographic aerial (LiDAR) survey data sets for completeness and accuracy.
• Storing and maintaining LiDAR data.
• Producing PLS-CADD models of existing transmission lines.
• Analyzing transmission lines for minimum conductor-to-ground clearance and possible impairments caused by trees or high brush.
• Reporting results using ESRI ArcGIS.
• Team participation including checking the work of others.
• Manipulation of LiDAR data for multiple engineering applications.
• Conduct Thermal Line Rating on existing transmission lines.
• Ensures conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as utilities' policies and procedures.
