About UsURMC uses a unique combination of technologies including LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) to accurately map and inventory transmission assets, identify vegetative threats, and predict changes in infrastructure due to load, temperature, and other factors. URMC helps utilities achieve compliance with federal mandates for vegetation management, as well as improve corporate governance and asset utilization because the precise location of every transmission tower, conductor, substation, and structure is identified with its exact latitude and longitude coordinates. Why It's ImportantA heavily loaded transmission line sagged into an overgrown tree in the right of way in 2003. The resulting cascade blacked out much of the Northeast, costing billions. In the national interest, a new federal mandate requires utilities to identify, prioritize, and schedule the removal of vegetation that poses a threat to electrical transmission lines, as well as create an auditable field action plan to assure compliance. Traditional approaches simply can't cut it. Tedious, costly and error prone, they offer none of the assurances or risk management sought by regulators. To overcome these shortfalls, URMC was formed in 2005. Its mission? Deploy state-of-the-art remote sensing technologies and business analytics software to provide utilities with an accurate inventory and analysis of in-field risks, and as well as the tools to eradicate them. URMC addresses federal and state mandated requirements through:
